TALISMAN
Navy,White threads, Jute and Stainless Steel
Talisman shapes inspired from the area of Niger, West sub-saharan Africa. The exaggerated size of the steel shape is so that it behaves like a mirror. A shield. It becomes your armor. The idea of the Talisman is taken from the piece ‘skin and bones’, ASL 2007. The skin is made of small triangular mirrors overlapping each other like fish scales or reptilian skin. The ‘skin’ weighs around 100 kilos signifying the constant work required to keep negativity away allowing for that transformation to happen.
